Mother Love Bone

You ever heard the story of Mister Faded Glory?
Say he who rides a pony must someday fall.
Talkin' to my alter
- life is what you make it
And if you make it death, well, rest your soul

- 'Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns'

Malfunkshun, the new film directed by Scot Barbour, was shown at Arclight on Sunset as part of the AFI 4th Annual Music Documentary series. http://www.malfunkshun.com

In a nutshell, it took my breath away.

This is the story of Andrew Wood, the exquisite lead singer of the Seattle band Mother Love Bone, and its predecessor, Malfunkshun. It's a sad tale, but one that deserves to be seen and appreciated.

There are interviews with his bandmembers & friends including Chris Cornell, Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard, Greg Gilmour, and the amazing Kim Thayil. But really, the best parts of the movie are just watching footage of Andrew singing, performing, joking & messing around. He is Landrew the Love Child, he is psychedelic, he's a junkie, he had an unmistakable style somewhere between glam and grunge. Now, he just was. But the memory will remain.

I was mesmerized by this cute snake munching on its squirming catch at the pet store on Broadway/8th in downtown LA. Watch that snake for too long, and it'll hypnotize you...

Now is a *great* time to stroll through the Rose Garden at Exposition Park. The air is heavy with the scent of exquisite blooms, and the weather is sublime.

Better yet, take of your shoes and feel the grass scrunch in between your toes. Watch the busy bees do their thing, and hear the birdies chitter. ahhhh, bliss.

Metro Silver Line

"Are you sick of traffic jams on the 10 Freeway and in Downtown L.A.?" asks the official website for the Metro Silver Line light rail project: http://www.metrosilverline.com/home.htm

The proposed route would stop at CalState LA which is great for students, and run all the way from Silver Lake/Sunset Junction in the west to El Monte in the east. This route would allow thousands of LA County residents to have an affordable & convenient means of transportation.

Support the Metro Silver Line project!

Hard Rock Cafe at Universal City Walk

Hard Rock Cafe

The City Walk is a gaudy razzle-dazzle extravaganza calculated to entice anyone into spending some of their hard earned cash! There's the Hard Rock Cafe, movie theatre and plenty of eateries & novelty stores to browse in. On our way back down the hill, a band of biker dudes swept past us as they revved up their motorcycles. From that vantage point, we could see Cahuenga Blvd stretch off to infinity and the cars driving by looked like colorful ants. It was a fun night, and we'll go back to enjoy the escapism once more.
