Triumph of the bacteria

Triumph of the bacteria

Witness these entities too small to be seen with the naked eye, bring down an entire civilization to its knees. No matter how powerful, our modern society can be conquered through the unguarded gateway of the stomach. Our food supply is festering.

"You don't have to be satisfied with America as you find it. You can change it. I didn't like the way I found America some sixty years ago, and I've been trying to change it ever since."
~ Upton Sinclair

I have a growing uneasy feeling about the quality and safety of our food supplies due to the grotesque treatment of animals intended for human consumption coupled with our questional methods of generating as much produce as possible via pesticides.

Every now and then, an alarm sounds, but it is quickly forgotten.

Well, it turned out it was not a mouse, but small enough to be one. The opossum in the only marsupial in North America, and this little one found my slipper to be a comfy subsitute for its absent mother.

Their tails are very flexible, and it wrapped its tail around my finger while I was trying to coax it of my slipper. We took it to a wildlife rehabilitation center and left the shoe with them.

It's cold, feels like Independence Day

Missing: one headlight, trust.

and I can't break away from this Parade

The flurry surrounding the annual Rose Parade in Pasadena is over, anf the floats are being towed away. It was cold outside but thankfully not a drop of rain.

It feels just like a beat up truck
I turn the engine, but the engine doesn't turn

This is the Bicentennial Big Bang Recreation vehicle - a glorious celebration of science n' Americana! It was parked outside Caltech when I took this shot and missed one headlight.

Take a gander at its other colorful side here
